W1T 4AQ London“In 2015 and 2016 I travelled solo around the borders of Europe, filming the great movements of people into the continent. I felt a strong need to act somehow — to put myself among these newcomers, to find out who they were and make sense of what was happening.”Vaughan Pilikian is a poet, artist and filmmaker. He spent five years making Flight, a documentary about the so-called “refugee crisis” of 2015–16. He imagined it as a silent film, or a musical without lyrics, and found its counterpart in the transcendent saxophone maqams of Amar Alaw.“Ten years on, I believe the film has a new relevance for a nastier, more xenophobic and more withdrawn world than the one we left behind. Were we not once all refugees?”Flight hasn’t been shown publicly in the UK since before the pandemic. This is a rare chance to see it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen, with the director in the room for a Q&A afterwards. The programme also includes three recent short films by Vaughan Pilikian.🎞 Flight, 82 min + 3 shorts + Q&A📍 arc space, 13 Tottenham Mews, W1T 4AQ London🎟 entrance: £10#arcspace #VaughanPilikian #Flight #documentary #filmscreening #London #Fitzrovia
